Snoopy in Cell-Shaded 3D

Cover image for Snoopy in Cell-Shaded 3D

This is a legacy page such that art I created prior to 2023 is still accessible. I have since moved on to more interactive and generative art. Unfortunately, this means some intended content (such as image comparisons, videos, and 3D interactive preview elements) are not accessible here, and copy text likely contains errors. My Artstation page contains more detailed writeups and embeds.

A full render showing both Snoopy and Charlie Brown, but not any of the extra scenery that can be a bit much

  • placeholder

Full render that takes inspiration from the Peanuts movie and the original comics, a bit busy for my taste, but everything there is based on a real source (the 'The Tree')

  • placeholder

Final render without Charlie brown, showcasing the recent additions of hands + more to the main Snoopy model!

  • Workflow TImelapse consisting of the majority of the project, up until I finished the typewriter!

  • Short render of the camera circling the model

  • Short render of the camera circling the model with wireframe overlays

  • placeholder

    Gif of the typewriter spinning

  • placeholder

Single frame render with no cell shading objects, looks a little like a flat-shaded version

  • placeholder

Single frame render with Solid->Flat Pass, showing each object's index to give perspective

  • placeholder

Single frame render with solid shading

  • placeholder

Single frame render with wireframe overlays, shows the 3D nature of the flat-shaded object

  • placeholder

4K rendered sample frame and project cover

  • placeholder

Wireframe render of final sample frame/cover

Ranking high among my favorite ever projects, making these models was a joy, especially when I switched over from a solid clay-like preview to a realtime renderer, which showed me the true cell-shaded nature of the models. Though this is still very much a work in progress, I love the direction in which its' going, and really appreciate the experience I've learned with cartoon styles in 3D modelling softwares and renderers
